The Sponsors want me to setup an IT Company - Paleez Help!!!

By itguyme ·
Hi,

I dont want to look "newbie" and want to show all my confidence That Ic an plan, start and establish an IT company with a rich guy's money. Well, the trouble is I never made a vision statement, planned an IT infrastructure from business point of view and and never been an IT manager!! (ok thats not the difficult part).

Guys please help me put some "selling" ideas for opening an IT company . the budget is good if the guy is impressed. I basically am Network Admin handling windows 2003 LAN of 1500 Client pcs. The guys trust me as I did one of their projects and they want me to handle their IT company.

What I need to know is:
a) how should the infrastructure of an IT company be
b) what should be our goals
c) what are the new selling ideas with which an IT company can start
d) Does IT/Telecom sounds good as the field to specialise, coz it may include Voip, VPN , PABx etc please add more items if you know more.

I understand the competition in the market and a new player in the ITworld is a risky stuff but hey one can give it a best shot, use some innovation and build up some loyal clients and there u r.

I hope i've not messed up my ideas here but i sure hope u understand what i really need to do here and please guide .

Best Regards,
Amir.

Few suggestions

by JamesRL In reply to The Sponsors want me to s ...

This is the point where you ask yourself - what kind of company do I want to be running in 3-5 years time?

Do you want to be a large organization that caters to nthe one stop shop crowd?

Do you want to carve out a niche and focus on that alone?

Do you want a company small enough that you can manage the whole thing?

Do you have a selected target market?

Once you can answer these questions, you can come up with a Vision - where you watnt to be. Then you need a plan on how you get there. Don't do the plan before the Vision is complete - you can't plan a trip if you dont know where you are going.

There are lots of business plan templates out there that will help you put structure around what you are trying to document. If the Vision is the "what" then the plan is the "how".

I would tend to be conservative. Most companies do need time to build to profitability and nothing says bad planning more than a extremely unrealistic profit projection.

On the other hand, its good to keep in mind that most business strive to make profits in 2 years from starting, so if you don't think you can, investors will look for other opportunities.

Hope that helps.

James

Suggestion

As a consultant in network designing, I think your facts are not enough for me to give u a clear cut answer. One question that I really need to know is: IT Company???? what do u mean? Is it strictly an IT company in the sense that its something like a vendor shop, etc are u giving computer services to the general public or your services are directed to a company that is dealing in something else. However with the little infor u hv given take note of these suggestions:
a). If the "IT company" is giving services to the genral public then what other contributors on this forum have said is definitely enough for you to start something.

b). However if your services are there to back-up a company thats already established then allow me to say u really need to do a lot of ground work and that means i will need to give u a very long answer. So if thats the case get in touch with me on this email: tg.resurrection@yahoo.com , we can also arrange to meet on skype or msn or yahoo messnger. Cheers

wishing you well.

Well Amir, I think you got a good handle on how the IT end works, but you haven't really said anything about the business aspect, vision & mission statements will help you in the path you would like to take your company.
Finding quality telecommunication technicians could be an issue as well. also you might want to check out is going to be your hardware cost, cable doesn't cost cheap and neither does fiber and as for your equipment make sure whatever you decide on using is upgradeable or scalable to whatever your company is going to provide.
In addition, you might want to look into the area your business is going to operate, existing public infrastructure could become a problem depending on how your physical connections will terminate. Good luck with your venture.
