Tired of turning pages? Prefer to look at a monitor?

By jardinier ·
Then this is the website for you.

There is a wide range of literature in all categories, and you can have a readable-sized portion of the book of your choice delivered in your email each day.

Thanks for the site, Jules, but..

it doesn't work for me. I like books. I love the feel and smell of a book. I like the fact that in a paperback I have something just nicely pocket sized and that I can open in a second at the right place, that I can take to the loo, anywhere, and the batteries never run out. I do a lot of sea-fishing and I always take a book. I'd certainly never take my laptop or even my Whackberry (phone goes in a flotation bag attached to my belt in case of trouble). If the book gets wet then I dry it out and iron the pages.

I couldn't cope with emailed "readable-sized portions" as my daily readable size can vary from nothing to a book and a half - the latter especially lately with the success of my book thread.

I was figuring

that people could "read" books at work while appearing to be intensely involved in their IT project. :)

Nice, but

I just buy/download books for my PDA. Yeah, I keep my contacts and calendar on it, but, time-wise reading is my biggest use (usually while waiting for something else). Most any book you could want is out there, classic and not, free or nearly free, and even the smallest of memory cards can hold at least several books. I've got about 30 on mine. Right now I am near the end of book 2 of Card's Enders saga "Speaker for the Dead".

Free stuff

My nephew, who is interested in drama, has created an enormous database of ALL plays that can be accessed free on the internet.

He intends to make it self generating and will in due course publish it as a free website.

..I prefer books over the monitor. I seem to get tired reading on the monitor, at worst books can only lull me to sleep :-). To me books also offers me to mull over things, whereas the monitor seems to scream "read me, else I will go away". :-))))))) I guess it is just personal.

All said and done, the referred site offers the possibility of reading some interesting after all I might cast my personal preferences aside and read something :-))))))

I won't read anything

by jardinier In reply to Tired of turning pages? P ...

unless it IS on a screen. But that's just me.

I am finding the site useful because of the excellent choice of books.

Currently I am saving for future reference:

"A History of Indian Philosophy, Vol. 1"

"Pagan and Christian creeds: their origin and meaning"

These are both excellent books and will be useful material for a website of mine which covers such topics.

It's a good way to burn a calorie or two while you're otherwise doing nothing but sitting on your a$$ reading the book. :^O

:^0 but it only works if you leave a blank space after the zero. This won't work --> :^0!
