To delete an entry in Install/Uninstall

By Ebla ·
I got stuck an old useless entry in the dialog box Install/Uninstall Programs (Control Panel), possibly because I deleted improperly the program in subject (not uninstalling it). How could I get rid of such annoying entry?

To delete an entry in Install/Uninstall

The simple way is to install TweakUI from Microsoft.
One of the options allows you to remove items from the Add/Remove programs list.
This is usefull both for your situation, and to make it harder for users to delete programs.

You can also use Norton SystemWorks, or OnTrack Fix-It to remove both the add/remove listing, and to clean up the leftover links in the registry.

Alternetely, you can search the registry for the name as it appears in the add/remove list.
CAUTION: Improper use of RegEdit can cause your PC to not boot. Backup the registry, and proceed with care.

A much simpler way is to go to the "START" button, then "Run" and type in "regedit" and hit "OK". The "Registry Editor" comes up.Click on "Edit", "Find" and when the box comes up with a space next to "Find what:" type in the name of the application that is still in your Install/Uninstall box that you are trying to get rid of and click on "Find Next". When it stops hit "Delete Key", then hit "Enter" and then hit the "F3" key and continue this process until the search is complete. If you aren't comfortable working in the registry then use something like mentioned in the answer above.

Using the Registry Editor you can search for an delete the entries of the useless entry you have in your INSTALL/UNINSTALL area. If unfimiliar or not used to editing the registry then you might want to use the Tweakui.

The location in the registry you are looking for is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

if you delete the entry under uninstall for the software you mentioned it will then be removed from add/remove programsin Windows
