Too Many PPP Adapters

In Windows XP Home Edition I seem to acquire an extra connection to my ISP. When this happens I cannot surf. The task manager shows two connections to my ISP one of which is marked as Non Operational. I have tried disabling Auto Dial while I am logged on and I found a setting in Zone Alarm which permitted an email client to act as a server which I changed but it hasn’t stopped the problem. Ipconfig shows 2 PPP adapters, both with the same IP address, but one has no gateway or subnet mask, ie 0.0.0.0. This is frustrating because I have to reboot to solve the problem. Thanks
