Now all we have to watch is that Jessie doesn’t sneak up behind Palmie in improve his Brain Damage any more.
Not sure what worries me more Jessie beating Plamie across the head with her shovel or Palmy enjoying it and saying Is that All? 😉

I thought it was someone singing along to “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol! 😉

Interesting trivia.

No one knows what an actual ‘Rebel yell’ sounds like. There are no recordings of Confederate soldiers performing one.

Not sure how long I’ll be on for today

There’s a bit of rain and wind here at the moment so I’m sort of at a loss as to how long the power will remain on or the Internet will be working as the remains of Tropical Cyclone Lee Harvey Oswald is passing the place and causing a bit of havoc.
I had to go out in the rain and wind last night and remove some branches from a tree that had broken and was resting against the house before it did any damage and then tie them down to stop them blowing away and causing more damage. Sunday was a great day I broke a Fan Belt on the way home and had to wait for the Tow truck to arrive while the car was moving dramatically around in the wind and then stand out in the rain with virtually no sight and cut trees down in the next door neighbors yard
But no matter what it doesn’t stop the Lorries from arriving and demanding to be feed. We currently have lots of Soggy Lorries looking sorry for themselves demanding to be feed and they are much louder than the other birds who are competing with them for our attention and food. :^0
What can I say the days around AU day are never boring. So much for a quite AU Birthday this year, looks as if some of the flooding is going to be worse than a couple of years ago in some places to. 😉

A couple hundred mm of rain and winds to 90 KPH nothing really for this place. About 6 inches in under 24 hours in the old scale. 😉
Just glad that I had the tree at mums place cut down last week. I very much doubt that it would have survived last night and as the suspect branch was overhanging the house I’m sure that the TV and Living Room of the house would be really second hand now. :^0

although i did see a story in the news that there were lives lost in the storm. That’s always so sad to hear. My heart goes out to those families.

Well Purps there have been 3 deaths so far

However all involved where driving through water across roads and getting washed away so over all we have been relatively lucky.
There was another who went to check his boat and had a heart attack which is sort of related to the floods and that one couldn’t have been prevented as they really didn’t do anything stupid unless you want to consider not taking their Heart Medication with them.
Some people have been incredibly lucky with trees falling onto their cars and they have survived though it’s difficult to understand how when you see the wreckage. Another went with her family to look at the flood waters and while standing under a tree to stop some of the rain it fell on her breaking her leg and giving her 3 year old head injuries. The Kid is still in hospital in a bad way though safe and stable now, but the woman has been discharged.
It never ceases to amaze me the stupidity of some people they completely ignore perfectly sensible information like stay home unless you absolutely have to go out and they go out for enjoyment or to Rubber Neck the damage. They then wonder why bad things happen. With strong winds it’s dangerous enough staying put indoors you don’t need to encourage Mother Nature to kill you.
I suppose that shows just how Old I am, as now as I don’t have to go out I stay put at home and just enjoy being there with no stress. 😀
It was amazing to look out the front door about midday as a massive tree across the road in some ones back yard had fallen well about 2/3 of it had with just the one big branch sticking up now and a much smaller one hanging. But as the rain has all but stopped now and the wind died down it’s Clean Up Time.
The next door neighbour who’s tree fell onto our house had another fall into his swimming pool taking the fence out as well so he’s got a big job ahead as here Pools have to be fenced and if the fence is any way not Child Proof for whatever reason the local council is downright nasty.
I saw a car drive through a fence into a friends swimming pool and as they where towing the car out the council was reading the riot act about a Unsafe Pool Fence to the owner. The person driving the car had stolen it was driving at excessive speeds and lost control of it then ploughed through a front brick fence then proceeded 200 yards into the yard and then through the pool fence. He’s on 10 acres so has lots of room and has now planted trees between the front fence and pool to prevent that happening again.
I on the other hand refuse to have a pool ever under any circumstances and am just happier without the hassles.
The Flood Peek will hit here tomorrow but it’s much lower that what hit here in 2011 so while there will be some localized flooding it’s not going to be anywhere near as bad as it was a couple of years ago, here at least. Up North in Bunderberg it’s nasty they got hit pretty hard with lots of rain and currently there are experiencing the worst flooding in their recorded history. I wonder how Jacky Howe is as he comes from there.
I’m just staying put and taking a Chill Pill, hopefully I’ll catch up on some sleep but somehow I very much doubt it will happen that way. 🙁

The Soggy Lorries

would be a great name for a garage band.
Prior to Hurricane Hugo in ’89, I removed a couple of 6″ tree limbs that were too close to the house. I removed one at the trunk, but because of the length of my ladder, I left about two feet of the second. What the heck, it was a good four feet from the house.
The only significant damage we had was where the 120+ mph winds repeatedly beat that 6″ stub into the roof. At least it wasn’t the entire limb.

Unfortantly for me this tree

Which had been there for over 40 years was sick, had lots of rotten wood in it’s trunk and worse still a large hollow directly under a branch that overhung the house. It was in the process of breaking with a large crack across the top of the bough and a large compression budge under the bough.
It was in the process of falling and as it was only 18 inches thick I thought it better to get it removed before some bad weather happened. When the guy came out to cut it he found the hollow and thought that the actual branch was hollow as well so it required a Cherry Picker which went to 4.5 metres to be used to cut it as if he had of climbed the branch it could have broken damaging the house and possibly killing the guy in the tree.
Not really an option but when it was eventually cut the branch was solid making the entire situation worse as it had so much more weight on the very weak join to the tree. OH did I mention it was a Big Tree? The stump is only 52 inches across and that is from the good wood on one side to the rotten stuff about half way across so it was massive..
Now all I need is several thousand more $ to have 2 more removed both of which where beautiful little trees when they where planted all those years ago by my Mother and as they only cost $5.00 each they where a real bargain. Of course she wasn’t the one paying to have them removed even if it was to stop her worrying about the possibility of them falling onto the house or the Power Service into it.
As things stand now there are several largish branches which overhang the Overhead Power Service which will one day fall and drag the Power Lines out of the wall. It’s only happened twice so far with the last time about a year ago and the energized Mains hang about a foot off the ground and stay that way till the power company sends someone out to fix the problem.
If it was just Mum there wouldn’t be much of a problem but as my sisters kids visit often they are just as likely to touch the power lines and kil themselves. Last time the lines came down one of them brought in a Hook that held the Lines to the house after disconnecting the hook and they asked Grandma what this was. She didn’t know either but he was lucky not to kill himself. Took the best part of a day to get the repair organised as the Power Company would only fix the connection to the house but we had to get a Electrician in to fix a new hook to the house before they would rerun the lines. That time they replaced the service with insulated wires but personally with the energy involved I wouldn’t trust the insulation all that much with young kids around. The youngest is 7 and the oldest is 15 now so in about 10 years they will probably be almost safe to have around. 😉

All of my lines are in ground, so no trees can take them out. I did have a tree blow down in the spring, and fortunately, it missed my house and deck. I managed to find a fellow to remove that tree and one other for a very reasonable price as they were’t giant trees like yours. Plus, this fellow was running a few head of cattle, and the leaves were edible, so he placed the limbs out in his field for the cattle to nibble on, then was going to cut up the wood for firewood. It was a win win situation.
