Tracking Microsoft Licensing CD!

By Soumi ·
I have been given the librarian job of keeping track of all the CD media we receive from Microsoft under the master licensing program.

These are CDs in shrink wrapped packages for various groupings such as Servers-server applications, Applications - Developer Tools, and Products for Macintosh. And they all have different month and years on them.

There is an End Item part No. on the CD. And the packages have a manufacture reference number plus a part number.

How does anyone keep track of all this? How long do they need to be retained? Any suggestions are very much welcomed.

Kiitos (Thank you.)

There is a White Paper available for download at the TR White Papers part of the site on software & Hardware tracking this should suit your needs as you are already using Volume License stuff there are no major issues with product keys but you need to keep the original Install Cd's for as long as that product is being used.

With XP Pro there where some problems with Volume License keys that had to be changed when SP1 hit the streets and again when SP2 hit the decks running and on each occasion when you needed new product keys you had to read the production number of the CD off the inner ring and then MS would e-mail you a replacement Product Key in 7 - 10 working days.
