Shank’s pony is walking by the way. :p
A commute from hell story, or Murphy rides again.
Picked today not to work from home, to get some face to face stuff done and convince my employer I should still be paid…
The trip to work is two and half hours each way.
So set my alarm for 05:50, ignored it, woke up at 06:50.
Wash and brush, out the door, for 35 minute walk to train station.
Having been doing this for four years, this morning I chose to get on the train going the other way !
Realised as it set off.
So get off 15 minutes and fifteen miles the wrong way, for a forty minute wait for the train going back.
Place is called Barnetby, the station is famous for being in the middle of nowhere with no facilities and the highest trainspotter per square floor ratio in the known universe.
Got on train going back, paid for weekly ticket, informed boss that I was a stupid c**t.
Halfway there, they tip me off the train because of YESTERDAY’S landslide.
Put me on a bus, the driver to save time chose not to use the motorway, but to take the picturesque route througn the winding roads of the peak district.
Unfortunately, these roads had been dug up. Ring boss, tell him the driver is a c**t.
Now at another pokey little railway station in the middle of the peaks. 14 stops later.
I arrive a Manchester Picadilly. Trams of course are still not running from there. Ten minute walk in the rain to tram stop, pay for tram, catch tram, congratulated my self on my honesty when they did a ticket check. Five minute walk to the office, arrive 13:15….
Boss tells me to get off so I can get home, which was a far simpler journey.
Tram to Manchester, get 18:42 Hull train, get off at Leeds, wait forty minutes, get train to Doncaster, wait 20 minutes, Get Train to Scunthorpe, Get Taxi, Home a mere 22:05.
Had better days, have you had worse?
