Tri boot XP start screen lockup

by timnmb2 . Updated 23 years, 2 months ago

I have a tri boot disk that I wanted to reinstall a backup copy of XP to for my client. When I choose XP, it makes it to the first stage of the welcome screen, before any accounts are shown and the word “welocme screen” is shown, then stops. All Ihave is the tri bar colored screen with the windows XP ogo on it. It never makes it any farther. Strange thing is that the mouse moves around, and it will go into hibernate? mode, or whatever cuts off the screen. When I move the mouse, the screencomes back up. Windows seems to be working, I just cant get to the log in welcome screen.

I have searched the net and all forums for this problem and cant find anything that resembles my problem. All I find is when AFTER the “welcome screen” appears. If I install the backup to a disk with only one partition, its fine.

I have used chkdsk /f, fixboot, fixboot /e (where XP is) and nothing helps.

Its a 40 gig divided by 5 partitions with 98 on partition1, 2k on par-2, xp on par-3 and basic files on the other 2 partitions.

Help meeeee, lol, thanks.
