Trillian or Gaim

By house ·
A simple question. I don't have experience with either, so I'd like to extract some info regarding issues, annoyances, functionality, etc.

Other multi-chat software is welcome to the table.

most effective one I have used is kopete.

all chat protocols supported.
and will run in background/systray so you don't lose screen real estate to it when working.

I've never looked at gaim. ( aol instant messanger not impressive )

and never heard of trillium.

If I run another Linux box, I will keep that in mind. I haven't run the OS since the initial Fedora project kicked off last year.

Another thing... are there any hidden ad threats involved with the free version Trillian?

Forgot to mention too... I'm looking for Windows based.

I have used both without problems. I personally like Trillian it imported my settings from other clients well.

It is still the most popular chat client (free) at download.com. Here is a link to its review at download.com

Thanks for the vote. I will move to Trillian, besides, my girlfriend also prefers Trillian. She's used it before.

I have used Trillian for a number of years now. The best imho. The new version 3 supports audio and video chat. I use it for msn, aim, icq, yahoo and irc. Can't speak for the other products out there cause I have had no need to try them. I use gaim on a linux box and it's ok but doesn't have the features that trillian does.

Cheers.

Rewrite... what is/are the "actual" difference(s) between the Trillian Lite and the Pro. When I see the two options 'free' and 'pro', I often worry about advertising technology.

I'll chime in with a vote for Trillian also.

My son and daughter have been using Trillian for a few years now with no issues or problems.

We just upgraded to version 3.

There are no adds or mal-ware that I have seen as yet.

Trillion started out as free-ware. The Pro version was added a year or so ago to provide a means to support further development of the program.

The primary difference between Trillian free and Pro is support and features.
Think of Trillian free as Trillion Lite, and you get the idea.

Trillion 3 has a LOT more features and integration than the previous version.
