I'm using following POP3 (pop.mail.yahoo.com) & SMTP Server (smtp.mail.yahoo.com). The Error message's (The host 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D). Regards Eric (Kenya)

Trouble Accessing my Yahoo & Hotmail Mai

I do not use Outlook Express 6, but since no one else has responded, I'd suggest trying Outlook without the protocol in the mail address (ie. mail.yahoo.com not prefixed with smtp or pop). Also your Yahoo account should not be named "Yahoo" (first initial last name? ).

Hi Anna777,

I tried what you said, but it does not work. The Error messenge's are (Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: '', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12007, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D and The host 'mail.yahoo.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Mbela', Server: 'mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D). By the way, I searched the web & was told 2 go 2 Internet Explorer icon - Properties - Connections tab - Settings - LAN Settings - Use a Proxy Server - Advanced - In the "Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with" box, type *hotmail*;*services.msn*;*yahoo*;services.yahoo* - Click OK three times - Start Outlook Express, and try to access your Hotmail & Yahoo account. BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. HELP PLIZ!!

I had/have a similar problem.
I'm going to assume that you have the correct pop3 and smtp servers. As you said all that changed was the connection that you used for the net.
If I'm right in that assumption the proxy server is the cause of your troubles. Read the documentation on how your proxy handles mail..or ask the admin to look into it.

btw: this is not a cure, but on my network, those people using netscape for a mail client had no problems, only those with outlook and outlook express had the same message as you did. try that as a short term fix
good luck

Hi Friend,

By the way, I searched the web & was told 2 go 2 Internet Explorer icon - Properties - Connections tab - Settings - LAN Settings - Use a Proxy Server - Advanced - In the "Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with" box, type *hotmail*;*services.msn*;*yahoo*;services.yahoo* - Click OK three times - Start Outlook Express, and try to access your Hotmail & Yahoo account. BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. But the messengers are working thats MSN & YAHOO. HELP PLIZ!! Trouble Accessing my Yahoo & Hotmail Mai

by Jayanth In reply to Trouble Accessing my Yaho ...

Hi, Let us know if you are using the same proxy server now, as you were when using Leased Line. Also check if your host is able to resolve the host names to IP Addresses. B'cos in your err message one line says 'host pop.mail.yahoo.com not found'. Could be a problem with your DNS too.
Also are you able to browse without any problems?
Make one more check...from your windows machine which connects to the internet through your proxy server try 'telnet pop.mail.yahoo.com 110'. this telnets to yahoo's POP3 server on port 110. If you get connected and get a response then its fine. If not, check your DNS Settings and your Proxy Server's support for POP3.
One more to check is your Internet Explorer's LAN Settings; as Outlook Express uses thesesettings.

Hi Jayanth,

I tried what you said by adding @ Yahoo Properties - Servers tab - Incoming mail (POP3) "telnet pop.mail.yahoo.com" & I got this messeage "The specified POP3 server does not appear to be valid server name, do you want to use it anyway? 'Yes' buttom or 'No' buttom. The Error messenge's are (Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: '', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12007, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D & The host 'telnet pop.mail.yahoo.com' could not be found. Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'telnet pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D) & on Internet Explorer icon - Properties - Connections tab - Settings - LAN Settings - Use a Proxy Server - Advanced - In the "Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with" box, type (*hotmail*;*services.msn*;*yahoo*;services.yahoo*). Now when I was using Leaseline connection, I was connected direct to the DTU (I wasn't using the Proxy Server settings 2 browse OR the Outlook Express). The ISP had given us 6 IP Addresses to use thro' the DTU and the rest of the employees were using the Proxy 4 browsing the Net. We still use the same DNS settings for Leaseline & Dial-up connection. I checked our MS Proxy Server (2.0 Service Pack 1) - Internet Service Manager - WinSock Proxy Service Properties - Protocols definition for POP3, Port 110, type TCP, direction (OUTBOUND). In Permission tab All the Users have Unlimited Access. In Sock Proxy service properties - Permissions tab - Action (Permit), Source (ALL), Destination (ALL), Operation (GE), Port (0). ITS NOT WORKING i.e the Outlook Express. HELP!! Regarding if our host is able to resolve the host names to IP Addresses? The answer is YES it

Well...you certainly didnt get my point about 'telnet pop.mail.yahoo.com 110'. This wasnt supposed to go into the 'Server Field' on Outlook Express. Change your POP3 Mail server back to 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' and SMTP to 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com'.
Now that you mention you are using MS Proxy2.0, ensure that you have the MS Proxy Client installed on the m/c from which you are trying this. This should help you out.

Hi, I went through the 'print screens' of your Outlook Express settings what you had sent. The setting in your Outlook Express are fine.

In the 'LAN Settings' in your Internet Explorer, in the section 'Do not use Proxy server for addresses beginning with', remove all entries for hotmail and yahoo.

Also if you are using MS Proxy 2.0, then **MAKE SURE** that you have installed the MS Proxy clients on the machine from which you are trying to access your hotmail and yahoo a/c's. These stepsshould help you solve your problems.
