I’ve got it from an ftp. It’s now on my C:\FREEBSD. The following distribs lay under:

    BIN
    CATPAGES
    CDROM.INF
    COMPAT1X
    COMPAT20
    COMPAT21
    COMPAT22
    COMPAT3X
    CRYPTO
    DICT
    DOC
    ERRATA.TXT
    FLOPPIES
    GAMES
    HARDWARE.TXT
    INFO
    INSTALL.TXT
    LAYOUT.TXT
    MANPAGES
    PORTS
    PROFLIBS
    README.TXT
    RELNOTES.TXT
    SRC
    TROUBLE.TXT
    UPGRADE.TXT

I’m istalling from 2 fdimage floppies. After it asks to submit the slice creation, it givs: “can’t create /dev/X in /dev”. In debug mode the debug console says:
“DEBUG: the major/minor is unknown for device type -“. /dev/X must be a dev file for slice, i think, because it names the slice “X”, not da0s5. What’s wrong here? tell me if you know.

I did not think the install disks loaded a driver to read a DOS partition. A friend downloaded the ISO image and we burned it to CD using adaptec’s software and a standard CD burner. The just boot from the CD and you should be set.

this is interesting – i used exacly this process without any trouble (boot/root floppies, packages in C:\FREEBSD).
what SCSI adapter are you using? how are your partitions/slices set up? (did you use the ‘automatic’ option? …?)
