TR'S HOT TOPIC: ANGRY AT WINDOWS, LINUX, IT PROS AND TR

Anger seemed to be the theme last week in the TechRepublic forums. Some
members are angry at the hullabaloo regarding the new features in
Windows Vista, asking why anyone cares about the next version of
Windows. Others are peeved at the constant Windows bashing, wanting to
know what features are missing from Windows that Linux is supposedly
ready to provide.

Some people are so angry that they just want permission to yell at
subordinates.

Above all, members are upset at TechRepublic and their fellow TR peers.
Our experimental discussion notification system didn't go over very
well--which is why we've amended the feature--and new member FUNTA has
raised the ire of many TR forum regulars with his controversial posts.
Even the existence of TR forums has been called into question, with one
member suggesting that TechRepublic discussions bring out the worst in
IT pros, and that Technical Q&A is a waste of time.

If you feel the same as any of the unsatisfied customers listed above,
or have a different comment, question, complaint, or kudos for the
TechRepublic community team, post it in this discussion.

Making us do our own leg work now?

by jdclyde In reply to TR's Hot Topic: Angry at ...

Gee Jay, you usually provide LINKS to your discussed topics?

Yeah, there were a lot of people angry that they were wrong and I was right..... ;\

Besides that, I think the most of them just need a vacation. They sure made more of each "issue" than was warrented (accept the funta post. He was a ripe one waiting to fall off the vine)

The Republic has become less Technical

by DC Guy In reply to TR's Hot Topic: Angry at ...

This BBS is beginning to look more like SciForums and less like StickyMinds. But that's okay, I enjoy it.

My only complaint, which I have already posted more than once, is that the threads get too long. It's impossible to keep up with all the traffic on some of them, much less discover one I missed at its inception and catch up. So a lot of them end up as chats among three or four members. I guess that's okay too but I wish there was a chat room for those folks and a forum for the rest of us where most threads didn't grow to an unreadable length.

I lose interest when a discussion gets long

Once a discussion gets more than 50 posts I'll generally lose interest. I can't find my way around or I have to stroke the wheel on my mouse thirty or forty times to get to a certain section of the discussion. My mouse likes the affection but it gets tiring for me.

God invented the "END" button. Jump right to the bottom.

I also use the "Posts from my contacts" to know when and where additions are made. It is the main portal for me.

Well as I'm about to use one of those 4 letter

Words lets see if it gets #### out.

As I work for a living and do not get to spend all day in front of a monitor doing what I'd like to be doing {Basically nothing at all } I missed just about every one of those.

Maybe I'll need to cut back on the work and have more play time of course that would mean that when the wife wants something I'd have to tell her "NO I don't have the money for it!" Not a good idea actually I think I'll stick to what I've been doing and passing out once a month to get some rest. :^O

The MOST disturbing thing about this post, is that you actually used the word 'hullabaloo'. That's not quite as bad as 'rigamarole', but it's in the ballpark.

I dunno!

by CG IT In reply to TR's Hot Topic: Angry at ...

If anyone has ever been a looky loo or participant in chat rooms or other discussion forums, whether it involved IT or not knows that these types of public "forums" inherently degenerate into bashing wars, chain yanking, or individuals posting whatever irks them that day. I got better things to do which is why you don't see me posting in the discussion forums.

Technical Q&A a waste of time? well once the chain yankers start posting their frivilous questions, yep, it's a waste of time.

the Linux vs Windows debate? chain yanking. Who cares. If someone does care, where's the debate about Linux vs Windows vs Solaris vs Unix vs Apple vs Netware vs ? As long as someone gets on the soap box and say this is better, someone else will drag out theirs and say it's not. Who cares.

and btw, while we are bashing, Smorty, where the ****'s my TechRepublic coffee mug? Who won all the IPods, what happened to TechRepublic Tee shirts, Christmas calenders, pens, day organizers, computer case stickers and bumper stickers?
