trying to remove windows 2000

I am trying to remove windows 2000 from an amd k2 based machine. I have tried using a:\sys c: command but it doesn’t work. I get a message
Cannot obtain exclusive access to drive.

I have also tired using a:\sys c:\ but I get a message:
Required parameter missing
