TWAIN driver problems

By skutflut ·
I have Win2kPro machine, P4 1.6GHz, 512MB ram, SP4 installed, all updates done.

I am trying to install a Brother MFC 420CN all in one printer/scanner/fax/copier on this system.
The drives for Printer & fax installed fine, but I'm running into problems with the Scanner driver. The diagnostic says the system cannot communicate with the Scanner.

I suspect the problem is with TWAIN drivers that I thought were uninstalled 18 months ago. I had a UMAX scanner on this system back then but it did not work particularly well with Win2k so I uninstalled it.

I also had a couple of different CANON digital camera TWAIN drivers installed as one driver would not work for both cameras. I have since removed both because THEY gave me some trouble.

The computer would not longer recognize the Canon A80 camera after I installed the additional driver to download pictures from a Canon P-30 camera. It would however, read the p-30 camera.

I suppose what I am looking for here, is some guidance as to how to find these old drivers which seem to be burried in the winnt\system32 folder (i already deleted the twain32 folder entries) and untangle the problem. I also went thru the registry after uninstalling everything and cleaned out the entries that were not removed during the uninstall.

Any help will be much appreciated

Actually, that suggestion is no help. Been there and done that...the problem is not with the Brother driver, its getting rid of the CANON drivers which defy removal even after following the canon web site instructions.

I found this question while trying to fix the same problem I am having on my machine...after 4 hours of searching I found this which solved the problem for me.

Who knows why Brother can't just fix the driver or at least include this patch in the driver install packages.
