Tweak UI error

By malctec ·
Having installed Tweak UI on a friends system, using win98SE a fault showed that I have not come accross before. When I selected the Explorer tab in Tweak UI, then in the shorcut box, selected none for white arrows on desktop shortcuts and in the box below for settings save Exploer windows settings the system was rebooted. But still we have white arrows to all shortcuts. Tried re-installing Tweak UI, to no avail, not sure what to try.

Tweak UI error

98 SE is a bit of a bugger. this is from the ms website: There is however a tweakui utility for w2k.

MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Platforms Support does not support the installation or use of the TweakUI tool. This tool has not been updated for use in Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me, even though many options in TweakUI may function the same in Windows 98 Second Edition as they do in Microsoft Windows 98.

NOTE : Do not use the Windows 98 version of TweakUI in Windows Me.

TweakUI (an unsupported tool for expert users) is not included on the Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me CD-ROM. A version of this tool is included on the original Windows 98 CD-ROM. To locate the program, open the following folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM:

CD-ROM drive Tools\Reskit\Powertoy
For additional information about how to install the version of TweakUI that is located on the original Windows 98 CD-ROM, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

One of Microsoft's security updates disabled the ability to use this feature of TweakUI.

If memory serves me correctly, the file that was updates was Shell.dll

If you revert back to an older version of Shell.dll, you will be able to change your shortcut Icon again.

Thank you for the answers to my question, but I have now found the problem. My friend has System Mechanic installed on his system, when you go to its "customize windows settings", a check was in the box to display a white arrow on desktop shortcuts,so this was cancelling out the one in Tweak UI. Thanks for the replies.
