Un-Used USB Ports on Desktop

By mestarspet ·
Where are the Un-used USB Ports located on my HP Pavillon desktop? The System indicates 7 posts are present, but I can visually locate 2 on the rear and 1 in the front? Where are these phantoms ghosts? Thank you!

Just because the system indicates there are 7....

... doesn't mean there are 7 actually physically installed. It only means the motherboard has a place to connect the plug-in. HP may have built your computer without the actual places to plug a USB device into.

Also, did you check to see if there is a lift-up door on the front of the machine which hides more USB slots?

And, does your monitor or keyboard have any place to plug in a USB device? These could be counted in the device manager as well.

The extra USB ports might be on the motherboard..

Motherboards usually have extra USB ports on the boards themselves. Just open up your case and they will be blue in colour. Red will be for 1394 (firewire port).
