Unable to access FTP outside of subnet

By kasb31-tr ·
I am trying to access an FTP site I have at home from another location (work). I have tested the connection at home with another computer and it works fine.

When I get to my work location, it times out. I created the FTP site using XP's IIS.

Any clues?

Thanks,

Can you get to the webserver at home?

If so, how?

Are you using a NAT firewall/router at home? If so, you would need to configure it to allow FTP to passthru its firewall.

That was it, however..

The port was not configured to allow FTP through. So I configured it and it was able to let me in. However, I am still not sure how to allow certain users access to specific folders and not to others.

In other words, if I want Jane Doe to have access to Folder1, I don't want her to have access to Folder2. I am using SMARTFtp as the client and Serv-U for the server side.

Any ideas as to how to limit the access to these users?
