To boot from a USB Device the Hardware needs to support this option

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to unable to boot dell lapto ...

So open the BIOS and set the Boot Order to USB then HDD. Then save the changes as you exit the BIOS. This will now boot from any USB Device that you fit before turning on.

If this option is not available in either your Dell or your brothers HP then they do not support booting from USB Devices.

These days External cd and dvds are available in the market or there are a device that can convert normal dvd to External or USB. if there is no option in ur bios to boot from usb but i think if you connect external cd or dvd by usb port it will search and boot from it. so try!.

You will need to set the BOOT device in the BIOS...

The device you need to BOOT first will have to be set in the BIOS. With your DELL computer there is a function to get your cd/dvd drive to BOOT first, so read your manual that came with the computer. If not, then please post the make and model on here so that we can help you more.
