Unable to read response from printer

By miklv ·
I have a Canon BJC 5000 I recently tried to convert from a parallel port to a USB port with a cable that has the centronics connection on one end and the USB on the other. After installing the software for the cable the printer was changed from LPT1to LPT2 - LPT2:(BUSlink USB to Parallel Port). Now when I try to use that printer I get a message telling me there was no response from the printer, even though the printer is on and everything is connected. In the printer settings the LPT2 is shownas the port for the BJC 5ooo. I'm using a Canon Multipass C5500 on LPT1 and an Epson 875DC on a USB connection with no trouble at all. Is there a solution to my problem so I can use the BJC 5000 along with the others?

Check the CMOS control panel to insure that you have the LPT2 port enabled, then check to make sure that the driver are installed for the USB port, also see if you can change the parallel settings to ECP.
The connection may be setup, yet the drivers may not be communicating with the software.

first you need to go to the control panel and double click the system icon, under ports you need to click it first then under all of the equipment listings, you need to click ; ADD PORT, since port 2 is a communications port, their is no lpt2 port for your second printer. And you need to specify which one is the default printer under the start, settings, printers. Another problem could be that your USB parallel hub printer needs to be deleted. Also after you install your second printer under the printer's properties click capture printer ports, and if your using a network printer you need to also check end capture printer port. Hope this helps.

Try to update the Canon BJC5000 driver and check your PC Bios - it may need update too.
You have 2nd USB device - on some m/b they cause problem - Bios update may fix it.
