Unable to view Vista Home and WinXP Pro on Home Network

Hi,

I recently purchased a D-Link 8 Port Switch to setup my home office network comprising of two (2) laptops and a desktop.I have windows vista home edition on one laptop and windows xp pro sp2 on the laptop so as the desktop pc.

I’ve completed wiring all the laptops/ PC with CAT5 data-cable and connected all to the 8 port swicth. There is activity displaying on the selected ports on the switch and NIC cards on the pc/laptops are in used.

Static IP address has been assigned to each individual workstations but when I’m completing a PING routing test from all the workstation, I’m getting “REQUEST TIME OUT” or the other pc/laptops cannot be located.

After changing the IP address of one of the laptop to an IP address which is already used on the network by another laptop, I’m getting IP conflict but still cannot resolved why i cannot view other workstation on a simple LAN or getting a “RELY” when pinging.

Workgroup are all identical including client services and protocol.

Please help !
