Undeliverable mail message

By john.weber ·
In Exchange, is there an easier way to identify the recipient of an "undeliverable message". Usually, the undeliverable message username is referenced by a series of numbers. We hard a hard time trying to figure out which name from the distribution lists did not get the message. Can anyone help? Is there a third party package/ utility or a configuration change that I can make or use?

Numbers?? Usually a NDR lists the actual recipient name that failed (Or dist list if that's the case.) Why don't you mail me a copy of the NDR and I'll take a look at it.

If you are using Outlook, you'll get the failed username(s) directly. Here's a sample

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: Test Email
Sent: 02/04/2000 1:04 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'nobody@bluewave-computing.com' on 02/04/2000 1:04 AM
The recipient name is not recognized
MSEXCH:IMS:BlueWave Computing:BlueWave Atlanta:BLUEWAVE02 0 (000C05A6) Unknown Recipient

If Exchange is relaying to another SMTP site for distribution, you may get only indirect failures as mentioned.
