I would think

that it is already unhardened enough, what is your point?

You know

That's exactly what I was thinking....

Have blank password, hook it to an unsecured wifi, kill all the AV/firewall stuff and use IE4.

That should do it.

Reason why i am asking

by wazb2k In reply to I would think

I got a box (windows 2000) which is already harden by someone but now i need to upgrade informix on that box but because of hardening upgrade process is getting stuck at some point.

Thats why I need to know is there anyway to unharden a Windows box.(revert to default settings)

The best way to

by Michael Jay In reply to Reason why i am asking

return to defaults would be a clean install, if that is not possible then this may be of some help;

This too may be of help;

Also, to post your issue in the questions forum will get better attention, include all details about the pc and software and just where it hangs up, with error codes ect...

Best of luck to you.

Try soaking it.

I'd start with water; that's the most environmentally friendly option. If that doesn't work, I'd try some "over the counter" solvents like isopropyl alcohol or acetone (finger nail polish remover). From there you may have to move up to paint strippers or similar products. I'd save acids for last.

Return them to their Defaults

And then turn off any security and Uninstall AV and Malware products.

That will Unharden them but with all of the Security in Place it's a wide open system that is extremely easy to break into and steal from.

When 2003 first came out M$ was boasting that it was the Most Secure Sever OS so far out of the Box. At a Special M$ Meeting to show just how secure this OS was I took all of 5 minutes to break in and change critical Parameters so why would you want to make it even easier?
