Uninstall Windows 98 from the c: prompt

Neither. It will delete the files in the \windows directory, but not the subdirectories under it. Deltree \windows will delete everything in \windows, including subdirectories. Be aware, though, that this includes things like outlook express files, etc (I lost all of my saved email and address book this way, once.) There will be a few files in the c: root directory, too, but I guess you know that. But, to answer your question, "deltree windows", typed at the c prompt, will remove windowsand everything under it. Everything on your hard drive that is not in or under the Windows directory will be untouched. When you do this, though, have something else to do... it takes about ten minutes short of FOREVER! Lots of stuff under windows. :-) Hope this helps.

I am assuming, here, that you are typing the command from the c prompt. If you are anywhere else, you will need to type "deltree c:\windows". If you are in the root directory of C: already, "deltree windows" will work, or you can type the extra c if you'd like to. :-)

The best way to uninstall windows from the C: prompt is to just re Format the C: drive. Back up all information to another drive say D or E if you have and type
Format c:
that will format your C drive. You can then reinstall windows by putting you win98 disk in the cdrom and setting your computer to boot off the cd rom. to do that you restart your machine and when it says, press F1 ( or delete or perhaps another key ) to enter setup press tha key. In setup there should be an option of BOOT ORDER. Set the boot order to

cdrom, a, c:

Then do the normal Install of Win98.

Key files you may need to save include,
A boot disk, (msdos.sys, io.sys, command.com)
MSCDEX.exe

Hope this helps.

Actually that would not delete anything.
Proper context is "deltree c:\windows"
