Uninstalling Linux

By hsnowden ·
Has anyone encountered the dreadful LI during installation of Windows(any form),after uninstalling linux 7.1. The computer gets the same point everytime, then,it asks you to reboot to begin the installation, and the computer stops during the recognition of system hardware. It pauses with and LI ?? This machine used to have Linux 7.1,and 7.2 on it(different times)Am I forgetting something?

Thanks

the problem is due to mbr where it keeps the old lilo boot loader which cannot deleted normally.

in bios chg the hdd mode to normal frm lba

boot with dos or win95/98 disk

run fdisk /mbr ...two to three times...

delete the partion...recreate it

reboot
chg the bios to lba mode...

boot w floppy

delete & recreate the partion once again...

format the disk

chk

the mbr should be overwritten

proceed normally with windows installation...

Ive myself done this in my pc many times..it worked...

reply back
thanks

Answer #'s 1&2 are both correct.
fdisk /mbr.
Then partition the drive.
Then format the partitions.
Unless it's SuSE. I've known people
to scrap their hard drive because of
SuSE professional 6.2. It has a forced-boot
option, and if (likeme) you had an older system
without the newest bios updates. It wouldn't
let you boot from a win9x floppy. I had to un-
install it with the SuSE CD. Since I updated
to the newer bios I can nuke anything out of
there. (I can't remember the key combination
for the uninstall in the set-up. e-mail SuSE)
