How do I uninstall windows 95. I need to uninstall windows 95 and then reinstall either a newer version of windows 95 or windows 98. I have both a newer version of windows 95 and windows 98 both on hand.

You can’t uninstall Windows 95 and still preserve your application configurations if that’s what you’re trying to do. However, if you plan on re-installating applications, then uninstalling Windows 95 is as simple as just booting to the DOS prompt and doing a DELTREE on C:\Progra~1 and C:\Windows.

Hi, you do have the deltree option or you can reformat with dos’ fdisk command (delete the partition). Make a windows 95 startup disk from the second tab under add/remove programs. However, you can preserve most of your settings if you simply upgrade the current version on your machine. Put the startup disk in A, restart and insert cd-rom when option comes up or insert cd-rom and run setup from command prompt or the run command. Good luck.

Assuming you want to preserve your existing Windows setting (desktop and so forth)here is a way to get the job done.

      !!Backup your system FIRST!!!

      1. Copy the Win95 (or Win98) directory off of the CD Rom onto your C Drive.
      2. Boot to a dos prompt
      3. Rename the Win.com file in the windows directory (wincom.old works for me).
      4. Run setup from the C:\Win95 (or Win98) directory.
      5. When you are given a choice for the windows installation directory, make sure it is C:\Windows — this assumes that this is where your present Windows 95 system lives.

After the installation is finished, you should see a familiar desktop.

      Hope this helps.

Since you already have windows 95, why don’t you upgrade to windows 98 then? In this way, you don’t need to re-install other software that is already installed in your harddisk.

If you plan to do a fdisk or re-format your hard disk, then you will have to backup all your data files.

Try attaching the USB device first before you power on your PC, then try autodetect.
