Unix and Win2K Share User Info

By TraceLove ·
How do I get a new Win2K Server to trust user accounts already set up on a Sun UNIX server? Clients (NT, 98, Mac) currently have their user name and password validated by a UNIX server running Samba. I want to add a workgroup server that is primarlyaccessable to a small department for file serving. So, how do I have my Win2K server know user and password pairs when clients attach to shared folders on the Win2K server? I do not want the Win2K server to act as a domain controller for both servers...just the W2K server.

Just to review what I think I read:
Your Samba server is functioning as a PDC? (for those of you that don't know, this is a new Samba feature) If so all that you have to do when they attempt to logon to the server, and are prompted for their user credentials, is to enter the domain and username as follows... DOMAIN-NAME\USERNAME for example, "microsoft\aaronw". If your Samba server is not configured as a PDC then you are out of luck, there are a few ldap option that you can try for authentication, but I am not sure how to set them. And or if you have ldap even running. The basic idea here is that NT doesn?t know how to check for ?unix? usernames or passwords. You can sync the two with a Samba server and or ldap.

Oh yeah I also forgot the obviuos what if the Samba server is not configed as a PDC because there is already a PDC, in that case you have tell the Samba server where the PDC is, I'd suggest reading the fricken manual on that one. =)
