unmountable boot volume

By joelspaho121 ·
so basically i wanted to start my laptop up as usual but when i did it would freeze for a second and flash bsod and then reboot and do the same thing over and over (loophole). In order for me to be able to review the error was to select do not restart after error screen on advanced boot options. After doing so the bsod stated it was "unmountable boot volume".I looked up a couple of solutions online but they require the exact installation bootable media which corresponds to the installed version.I am running on windows xp and i have made absolutely no changes to the laptop itself.I dont know how to determine the exact version of my pc without booting it all i know is that i upgraded it manually to sp3 so i installed a new windows xp pro sp3 online off scratch so i could run the recovery console but that didnt work neither because the version wasnt matching. Can someone help me? this laptop im using right now has important data which im backing up right now but the point is that i dont wanna format the laptop(that should be the very last option).Im planning to back everything up on the 2nd partition and perform a clean install of windows xp sp3(the applications that were installed were only compatible with xp thats why i have to install it again).
please help
