.dll files are usually updated by a exe or a bat file. The mfr of the software posts a download with updates.
If a .dll file got corrupted and it's preventing you from runing a program, find a similar machine with the same program, runa search, copy the needed .dll file and paste into your system.

Good luck!

If you're trying to update a DLL file that's in use and Windows is preventing you from doing it manually... copy the updated files to a temp directory like C:\TEMP. Shutdown and restart the computer in MS-DOS mode then copy those files in the temp directory to say like C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or where ever it belongs.

If that's not what you're trying to do then re-install the application in question or download the most up-to-date version from the mfg's website (if available).
