Upgraded motherboard problems

by cclenright . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

Hi Guys,

I am very new to this though I have been a member for about 8 years. I have just used the group to search for problems, read the results and work it out from there..many thanks for all the help 🙂

This time I a flumoxed …

My daughter plays on Second Life and keeps pinching my computer so I decided to upgrade an old pc for her.

I have a few ancient pc’s lying around. The CD’s and HDD and floppies works … so I thought well just upgrade the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU and she has everything needed.

So I bought an Intel 775 Motherboard+6.0GHz Intel Dual Core+2GB DDR2 and built a new pc.

So first it didn’t like the o/s. But I have the original XP Pro cd so reinstalled XP. And, in theory it all works ..

except that give it two jobs to do at once … and it crashes and reboots ..

and I mean easy jobs … like downloading something and then try opening IE … reboot?!?!

I have been trying to solve this for two days .. have installed every Windows upgrade .. but seems my new “high speed system” (well higher than before) … just can’t take pressure ..

I would appreciate any advice ..

Maybe I should add for the really tech guys .. I had a hard time reinstalling XP … lots of blue screens ..

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

but finally it installed ..

thanks

Chris
