Upgrading from NT 4.0 Server to W2k Serv

By shane_brooksher ·
I'm trying to upgrade NT 4.0 Server to W2k Server and on the Hardware compatibility check, it says my D-Link DFE-530TX+ NIC is incompatible and needs updated drivers. No Problem, I put the D-link driver disk in with w2k drivers and it won't take itbecause it's looking for OEMSETUP.INF files specified by administrator. I sure didn't specify them. I also tried downloading new drivers from dlink, but the same results. On the hardware compatibility list, this nic is supported. i'm a w2k mcse and this problem is very baffling to me, for upgrading wasn't talked a whole lot about in the course (w2k or nt course). Any help is appreciated. shane

I recommend that you download the win2000 drivers specifically for the 530TX+ from:

http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

I have just done so to my computer.... and i can see the oemsetup.inf file within the downloaded zip.

Another thing you might try is to copy all the inf files from your system to c:\winnt\inf (this is a hidden folder). What might be happening is that you have an oemsetup.inf already in this folder and the install is confused.

I am successfully using these adapters with W2K, and loading drivers from the disk that came with the adapters. You might try doing the upgrade without the adapter in, then after W2K upgrade is done, put the adapter back in and try installing the drivers. When you put the adapter back in pnp should find it and you can go from there.

You can also use device manager to reload the drivers. There is point where you can put your disk in and browse for the oemsetup.inf file.

You may be having trouble because the D-Link drivers are not really W2K certified, even though D-Link made them for W2K, and they work.
