Upgrading NT4 desktops to W2k Pro

I am having trouble upgrading my NT4 domain’s nt4 workstations to w2k pro. The install hangs during detecting components and registering components. The install takes 5-8 hours, way to long. Then the newly upgraded W2K Pro machine will hang during any task involveing explorer.exe. When looking at task manager there is no apparent overtaxing on memory or proccesor. Also these are newer 600 / 850 intel processor models on intel 810 and 815 Boards. I can find no problems with the bios or conflict with the HCL / software CL. Help,
