usb cd-rw making coasters in win98se

by rvj . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I have a compaq laptop PIII 600 with 128 mb of ram running win98se. I purchased an Iomega usb 650 cd-rw about 8 months ago and now the drive just makes unuseable cds. I am using the adaptec easy cd creator v3.5c that came with it. I don’t use the drive that much and probably made 3 good cds with it so I know it did work at one time. I uninstalled the software (easy cd creator) and reinstalled it. Uninstalled the usb drivers and reinstalled them. I checked iomega’s web site and did all of the things they metioned like disabling read ahead on the hard drive and the internal cd-rom drives and enabled dma. I have over 2GB of free hard drive space and defragged it with symantec speed disk before attempting to burn. What is really weird about this is that this drive doesn’t work on a brand new pc that I built with only windows 98se on it and the software that came with the cd-rom drive. Did anyone else have this problem with their usb cd-rw drive. This problem occurs both when copyingfrom cd-rom to cd-rom and from hard drive to cd-rom. I have one usb port and do not use a usb hub. I think the drive went defective. Thanks in advanced (I’ve made about 25 coasters so far).
