usb keyboard not working

By rmyers5353 ·
I have a dell/logitech itouch wireless keyboard and mouse. The mouse works, but not the keyboard. In fact no keyboard works on this computer. When I try a usb keyboard it searches for the driver and says tries to install one but says "cannot create a file when that file already exists." I uninstalled the keyboard first in device manager and it said the same thing. What to do?

And make sure to have a driver ready for the keyboard as well, just in case.

a usb mouse and an external usb hard drive work fine just not the keyboard. A ps/2 keyboard does not work either, yet both work during post. I know its weird

I have had this happen

by w2ktechman In reply to usb ports working

the built in drivers for the keyboard became corrupt. The way I fixed it was to **** away all of the USB ports, re-install the chipset drivers (HP has USB drivers with the chipset (MB)) and re-install the keyboard drivers. Most keyboards do come with drivers that can be used.

I have the same problem now with a mates Compaq 5000 desktop PC, with their Compaq USB keyboard. How did you resolve the problem?
