USB Modem with Win2k Pro

By seeboonooi ·
I have an USB modem and I am experiencing some problem in Internet browsing. Once I get connected to my local ISP, then I try to browse Internet, the IE seems like it can't resolve the name. But sometimes it can resolve. So anyone have this experience or anyone know any document about this. Thank you.

IE Cant resolve most likely because of a DNS server address either missing or incorrect. If your Dial Up is DHCP then make sure that under Network Properties the adapters TCP/IP properties DNS settings is "Obtain DNS server automatically". Connect to your ISP then drop to a Console box and type "ipconfig /all" and see if the DNS entry is blank, if not try and ping the DNS address. Try to resolve from the console using the simple ping "ping www.yahoo.com" even if the ping fails it should still resolve for you. If it does, but IE continues to fail then check the connection settings, or perhaps try installing the latest version of IE (to refresh the DLL needs for IE's operation).

If this is all correct and the resolve still does not work, then try to obtain a DNS address and enter it into the DNS settings manually and see if that allows you to resolve.

Later..

I already tried everything, ping, nslookup adn etc. Seems like still cannot work, until I decided to change to serial cable modem. Guess what, it works fine now. No more problem such as cannot resolve name. Anyway, thank you.
