USB printer to NT system

By kristin.page ·
I have a USB only printer (HP1012) that I need to connect to NT system that runs an Agilent Chemstation. Does anyone know of an adapter that will connect to either the computer's serial or parallel port? Alternatively is there a utility that I can use to get the NT system to recognize (and use!) the USB port.
Thanks

NT Printing

by computer_guy02 In reply to USB printer to NT system

At one time Belkin was making a cross over cable for printers, don't know that they still do though. On utilities not that I know of, NT just doesn't recognize USB and I don't know that you can trick it.

WinNT does not support USB

by InfoSec Engineer In reply to USB printer to NT system

I have not yet seen a cable which will permit the use of a USB printer on a parallel printer port. I have seen the opposite though (USB on PC to parallel on Printer).

USB is not supported by Windows NT and per Microsoft will not be supported. This was one of the advantages of 'upgrading' to Windows 2000 (Windows NT 5.0 I believe was the original designation before the whole NT trademark fiasco).

The best option is to purchase a parallel compatible printer for your system as I am sure that upgrading the OS on the workstation will cause other issues for your custom software.
