usb-printer(w/pci-card) on fic-va-501(so

By europanorama ·
i already opened a question concerning powerdown-problems. now comes the usb-printer the customer tried to install. can i leave the parallel-port-settings(spp, ecp, epp, or ecp/epp?)nothing to do.
i have deactivated irq-vga-assign because video is assigned and network-carc(internet) ok.
i will enable "reset configuration data" to assign usb-pci-card, ok? i hope no crash will come.

humm...are you using a USB 1.1 PCI card? sounds like your trying to use the parallel port as you connector for the USB. Nope won't work.

Hi Michael,

If you are sure that the customer will not be using the Parallel (or serial) ports, I would disable them in BIOS settings to free up the resources.
Otherwise, there is no problem leaving the port(s) enabled.

I didn't take a look at the FIC 501, does it have an on-board USB controller?
If so, it is only USB 1.0
If you are using a plug-in USB card, make sure to disable the on-board USB also.

Resetting the configuration data allows the BIOS to assign IRQs to the devices.
This normally does not cause any problems.
However, Windows may have trouble updating some device drivers if an IRQ is changed.
