USB to Serial on a Lattitude D420

By christophercoates ·
I have a Lattitude D420 and have installed the drivers for a USB to Serial cable, however still cannot get any devices to recognise.

Can anyone help.

The drivers should work as i have installed the cable on a pc aswell and it picks the devices up.

Depends on the OS in use here

Some of these USB to Com Port Adapters are not Vista Compatible. It all depends on the Chip Set used to make them with.

You may very well find that in this case you need a different adapter to work with this computer. It could be something as simple a a Chip Set Incompatibility between the actual Adapter and the USB Chip Set of the computer. Also try running this through a Powered USB Hub as some USB ports do not have enough power available to run the Device once it is connected and this causes the Chip Set of the Adapter to not get enough power and become invisible to the computer. Using a Powered USB Hub cures this problem and allows the device to work correctly and the computer to recognize anything plugged into the Adapter.
