use laptop to view old pc

isn't there a way to use my laptop to view my old pc files? new dell lap and old dell pc. thanks. pinto

You could use a 'crossover' cable or a flashdrive...

Depending on how many files you are talking about.

If you only want access to a couple of GBs of files you could just transfer them from PC to Laptop using a Flashdrive: 4GB and 8GB drives are now well within the wallet of most users.

If you are talking about hundreds of GBs, then you would be best advised to purchase a 'Crossover' cable (sometimes known as a Null Modem cable).

Connect the PC and the Laptop together via the network ports, use the Network Wizard on each computer in turn.

I advise against accepting the default name for the network: DO NOT use the name of 'MSHOME' for the network - change it to a single-word-name of you choice, and insert where required into BOTH network wizards.

When finished both the laptop and the PC will be able to 'see' each others files.
