Use of DFS in Windows 2000

I have found lots of documentation for setting up the distributed file system which seems pretty easy to do. My problem is being able to access it from the user standpoint after that. I’ve added a New Network Connection to the Root but when I try to access one of the links I get and access denied message. I’ve checked all the Shae and NTFS permisions for the root and the links but still can’t access them.
I have been unable to find any documentation about the DFS client other. Any ideas?
