User and Logon password bypassing

By Ididntdoit ·
How do I delete the administrative user ID and password on an IBM thinkpad 560e notebook? I already tried pulling the battery, didn't work. It is a preowned system and I do not have access to previous user information. O/S's win nt 4.0 and nt workstation also win95.

Hi,
If you speak about BIOS password this depends by manufacturer. You must remove CMOS battery (not external/removable battery) or use a switch/jumper inside the laptop which reset the BIOS at default options.
If you speak about Windows password:
-Win9x: find and delete all *.pwl files.
-WinNT: follow instructions from - http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
Remove any space from url.

According to the IBM website, you must take your laptop to an authorized IBM reseller to have the supervisor password deleted.

As an addon to what Tim gave you, you need to bring along proof that you are the legal owner of the laptop.

This is part of an anti-theft feature.

This question is posted every couple of days. One of the reasons I like this forum is because most the folks here are honest. I'm sure most have either personally or know someone who's lost thier laptop to theft. Good job all!
