User/Paswd File Sharing in WinXP Wrkgrp?

By kadir ·
Hi, We have 3 Computers running WinXP Pro and working in a Workgroup. They are connected with a hub and each have a direct connection to the Internet.

They want to share folders with each other like in W98/W2K. However, In WinXP sharing diaolog box, I cannot set the user names and their privileges who may logon this XP machine. So, when we enable file sharing, other users (running w98-wxp) can see the shared folders without prompted for User/Passwd logon prompt.

When setting the folder sharing, Only the basic properties of sharing are listed; ie: 1- share this folder 2- allow other users to change the folder content.

Is there a way to solve this problem, other than going back to W2K Prof.

TIA,

Hi,

what you'll need to do is open Windows Explorer, then go to tools, folder options, View. Scroll down all the way to the bottom and uncheck 'simple file sharing'. After that, users in a workgroup will be prompted for user name/password.
