Users are being disconnected from Network Resources

By ericg ·
I have about 20 users in our local office all running XPsp2 connecting to a Win2k3 AD. It seems that days that all users are in the office, a few users keep getting dropped offline. They can be lookin inside a Network Share and hit F5 to refresh and then tthey are told that they are offline. Hit f5 again and they are back online. It seems that it is worse if everyone is in the office. When not a lot of people are in it is not a problem. I have checked the licensing and it all ok.

did this ever work? safe mode w netwrking? server event log?

by sgt_shultz In reply to Users are being disconnec ...

if this used to work, maybe you are having the problem described below. seems certain programs have an 'outdated kernel mode driver'. several fixes and workarounds are suggested. also some steps to troubleshoot. It's all here:
You experience slow file server performance and delays occur when you work with files that are located on a file server
if that is not it, post back with your event log error(s)

Dup IP address(es)

by Churdoo In reply to Users are being disconnec ...

Is DHCP full or is the DHCP address space overlapping valid static IP's on your network? I've actually had this happen with XP machines, where one overlapped the management IP of a linky WAP.

2K and prior, if a dupe IP was detected, then TCP/IP would not load; however, in XP, TCP/IP still loads and tries to run, and sometimes doesn't tell you that it's flipping between a IP and a live IP.

This would be on my list of things to check.
