I am running a WINNT 40 server w/ Win98Se workstations. Users are getting locked out of thier files. Primarily Office documents. They can create/open a document, make changes, when they try to save the file on to the server an error message claims someone else is already using the file and does not allow them to save it. Sometimes they are able to rename the file and save it on the local C: drive. Other times they cannot save the file at all. No other users are accessing the files. I have checked and changed User rights to the files. Scanned for viruses using Inoculan and Trendmicro scanners. I have tried copying a users files down to the local win98 folders to remove security, have created a whole new user, copied files back up… same problem?? The server is running SP6, with the latest critical updates. I do have a problem with Event Viewer, I cannot open the Application Log as it keeps getting corrupted. No clue on this one either?
