Using one PC CD-ROM as resourse for CDless PC

By jep0233 ·
I have an Acer Aspire, no CD, fine. I have 2 laptops with CD-ROMs. I can never find a definitive way to share files and resources. It always seems to come down to a message saying to the effect no permissions. I am Admin for both PCs. I have tried various suggestions, Wizard, everything. Anyone know definitie way with possible scenarios that it might not work and how to get around it? Thanks, jack

Can you see the others in ur network neighborhood?

I am assuming you have set up your network correctly. You should be able to see the computers with cd roms in your network neighborhood. If not then then check to see that the work group is the same on all computers. Then make sure you share the cd-rom. This varies by operating system so post what operating system so we can provide a better solution.

Seeing others?

1 toshiba laptops w/ CD-ROM; 1 Acer Aspire w/o CD-ROM / WindowsXP both / Admin on both. Use no password on either machine. I am only user. Named the CD-ROM on the toshiba "CD-ROM" Used info to give many users all permissions. Wireless router. WORKGROUP is the name of workgroup on each I get to where I can see WORKGROUP on the Aspire. <CLICK> Then I see MYTABLET which is the name of the Toshiba tablet. So far so good. When I click on that it says; to the effect, "possibly no permissions, check with the Big Giant Head to see."

User name and password on both systems.
Then you should be prompted for those credentials.
