Video recording during WhastApp call

Hi everyone,
Yesterday, I was in a WhatsApp call with my boyfriend when he was attacked by a security guard. My boyfriend started recording everything, but I didn´t hang the call up. Stupidly, I thought that the video will record two audio tracks (call and external). The video only has the in-call audio. Is there any way of recovering the external audio track?

It may be possible to recover the missing audio but it may take some expensive equipment and at a high cost to do so. I wish it was easier and more economical, but I seriously doubt it could be. The phone’s microphone is designed to capture close audio and minimize background interference/noise.

Where should I go for doing that? Is there an audio track file in the phone that can be recover?

This has been kicked around many times. You must set it up and test in advance. You can’t recover what was not recorded.

However in a legal setting you sit with your lawyer and create an affidavit of the events along with you filling in the missing dialog.

Again: “WhatsApp does not natively record both sides of a call due to privacy and security reasons. To record WhatsApp calls, you’ll need to use third-party apps or external recording devices.”

That sounds really scary—glad your boyfriend recorded it. Unfortunately, WhatsApp doesn’t capture external audio during calls. Maybe check nearby CCTV or ask witnesses for help.

Recovery would have been possible if your boyfriend used an external microphone.
What @birdmantd meant could be seeking for sound enhancement tools to amplify any faint sound in background. I know this might be difficult to achieve.
However, I feel you still have an evidence enough for legal purposes even without the sound.

This is really a shocking situation… unfortunately, if the recording only captures the audio of the call, it is unlikely to recover the ambient audio. Unless your phone has recorded via a third-party app or an external microphone, there’s not much to do.
