I have a machine that has vista running. . .i would like to downgrade it to windows xp and anytime i try installing xp, the setup replies with an error message that "no hard disc installed on the system"
I tried installing win98 and that was succesfull. . .Pls i need some brainstorming here!

Does it tell you, "No hard disk installed in system" during the blue setup screen process? If so, it should just be a simple matter of obtaining the proper driver for the disk and during the initial setup process there is a point where you press F6 in order to provide third party mas storage drivers. That would be the first place I would start.

just change the sata mode in the bios.
