Recovery Partition

by TheChas In reply to vista files

Most computers that do not come with the DVD for Vista have a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Many of these have a utility you can run to burn a set of recovery disks.

My Acer laptop burned 4 DVDs when I made my recovery set.

There are also many backup and clone utilities that you could use to create a backup image of your computer.

Another option that is worth considering if you think you might go back to Vista is to buy a new hard drive and then store the existing hard drive. That would make your changeover time under 1/2 hour.

Now, before you undertake the change to XP, you MUST first verify that you can get the drivers for all of the hardware in your system.

If the manufacture does not have XP version drivers available for download, you will need to find all of the drivers from the device manufactures.

A good way to find out what devices you have is to run a system inventory utility like Belarc Advisor. click on free download.

For newer laptops in particular, it may not be possible to find all of the drivers for XP.

Most likely, you WILL need to use the F8 option while the XP installer is loading and install a storage driver.
