Vista not recognising administrator rights

by lyn.jacobs . Updated 18 years ago

In Vista home basic: when going through the initial set up for a new computer, it would not allow me to create an account called “administrator” as it said it already existed, although it did not show as an option to log on to. Not experienced with Vista, but it seemed that the administrator account was built in. Created another account as a user with full administrator rights in permissions. However, I’ve just downloaded another software program but Vista won’t let me run the install as I am not an administrator! (“Run as administrator” option greyed out on the menu). How do I log on as the “Administrator” that came with the system (no icon/option at log-on) or get it to recognise the administrator permissions of the other account I created?
