I didn’t find any posts that clearly identified this problem so I made one here.
After ‘the Google'(GWB 2006) it soon became clear that this was indeed a plugin problem.
One solution was to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.x and then install Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.
Other than having to undergo this process Outlook 2007 works fine on Vista.
