      Mic. test ?

In reply to Vista SPR-Problem ” Computer can’t hear anything”

Did you complete the Mic. Test in the Sounds Options of your control pannel ?

If your mic can’t be hear in the test, you should check your sounds drivers and/or check on your sound control if your Mic. is not checked as “Muted”

Right click on your speaker icon in the system tray…

      Then select AUDIO Properties.

You’ll find the slider for the microphone may be too low. The little box is probably ‘ticked’ – muting the microphone.

Untick the box and adjust the microphone level to suit.

        Drivers checked ok
        Audio properties checked not muted
Sound levels – even when set to max computer “still can’t hear”
Is there a way to check mic connections for recording
Play back of CD/DVd no problem but I can’t record anthing.
        Thanks

maybe caused by noisy sound card

      by tedc ·

I had the same problem, which would happen after using vista’s mic setup – the setup was turning my mic down so far that the rest of speech recognition could not hear it. Apparently it was turning down the loud hissing of my sound card (when set to +30 db boost). A cure for me would have been: use a modest mic amplication (done by a mic pre-amp instead of the sound card’s boost). This would have had much lower noise, left at ok volume by mic setup. But I gave up at this point, after trying (and taking back) several mics.

not only can’t use vistaspeech recognition, I also can’t record anything whether using built in or external mic
Playback of CD or DVD is fine

        Can you record anything
Is there a way to check that mic connections/sound card is working for recording
        Thanks

      Vista Problem with sound

      by forerunner ·

In reply to Vista SPR-Problem ” Computer can’t hear anything”

ok all of you my not know this but vista has taken direct sound out of the kurnal and will no longer let the sound card & direct sound talk to each other. i had the same problem it tured out that this was my problem the sound cards that are going to full work need to be ony a few months old and say that their vista compatible.

or you will get something like the mike will not hear you at all or be very low. even with a new sound card it was still a bit tricky to get it to work with my mic
